Repairs in King City

Appliance repair services in King City

Hard lake water in the village, very hard groundwater in Schomberg and private wells in the hamlets all reach the same screens, valves and heaters. That is why dishwashers, washers and fridges lead this list, each with the faults a technician tests for.

Dishwasher repair

Village water is rated hard: enough for a white film on glasses once the rinse aid runs low. On Schomberg's very hard supply, scale reaches the heater and the inlet screen sooner.

  • Heating element coated in scale
  • Wash pump humming with no spray
  • Slow fill through a scaled inlet screen

Washer repair

Front and top loaders on hamlet wells collect sediment at the inlet screens, and iron or manganese can leave rusty or black spots on laundry that start at the well, not in the machine.

  • Slow fill or a fill error code
  • Drain pump clogged with grit
  • Bearing rumble during the final spin

Fridge repair

Ice makers and water dispensers draw from the household cold line, so an overdue filter or a scaled fill valve shows up first as thin, hollow cubes or a weak trickle at the door.

  • Ice maker turning out small, hollow cubes
  • Dispenser slow even after a filter change
  • Garage fridge that quits in deep cold

Dryer repair

Gas or propane dryers and electric models. When the duct chokes with lint, the thermal fuse, a single-use safety link, opens and the drum keeps turning with no heat.

  • Igniter glows but the flame never catches
  • Blown thermal fuse behind a crushed duct
  • Worn idler pulley squealing

Stove repair

Gas or propane ranges, coil and glass-top electrics, and induction cooktops. A glass-top element that will not shut off usually has a welded infinite switch, the dial control behind the knob.

  • Yellow, sooty flame at one burner
  • Spark module still clicking after the burner lights
  • Coil element dead from a scorched socket

Oven repair

Range ovens plus single and double wall ovens. A slow preheat traces to the bake element, the igniter on gas models or the temperature sensor, and each is checked with a meter.

  • Bake element blistered or split
  • Temperature sensor reading off
  • Convection fan motor seized

Water and housing

How King City's water affects appliance repair

King City's taps now carry Lake Ontario water through York Region's system, and the village wells sat offline through 2025. That water is hard but not extreme, so a village dishwasher that keeps crusting over usually points to a heater, rinse aid or a hardness setting rather than the water alone. Schomberg is different: its treated groundwater runs about twice as hard, and fill valves there scale noticeably sooner.

Past the village, King's hamlets are planned around private wells and septic systems. If you have a recent lab result for hardness and iron, keep it handy for the visit, because it tells the technician whether a new inlet valve will simply scale up again. Inside the village the housing is young: about half the homes went up in the decade to 2021, so many built-ins are now past their first warranty.

Two kinds of hard water

York Region's water reports put King City at 131 mg/L hardness in spring 2026, classed hard, on Lake Ontario water. Schomberg's treated groundwater measured 264 mg/L, classed very hard, after iron and manganese are filtered out.

Hamlets on private wells

The Township of King's Official Plan expects its hamlets to stay on private wells and septic systems. York Region's well testing covers bacteria only; hardness and iron need a private lab at the owner's cost.

Newer, larger detached homes

In the 2021 Census, 52% of King City's occupied homes were built between 2011 and 2021, 81% are single-detached, and the average home has 8.1 rooms. Across the whole township, 37.9% of homes date from 1980 or earlier.

Why King Valley

Why King City homeowners call King Valley

A small population spread over a big township changes how a repair visit is booked and what the technician looks at once there.

Spread-out calls, booked by locals

King Township is the largest municipality in York Region with the smallest population, so calls sit far apart. Our own booking team, not a call centre, sets each visit, and a call before noon usually means a technician the same day.

Gas appliances and CO alarms

Gas ranges, ovens and dryers are repaired by TSSA-certified gas technicians. The Township's fire department notes that since January 1, 2026, a home with a fuel-burning appliance needs a carbon monoxide alarm on every storey.

After a Hydro One outage

The Township lists Hydro One as its electricity utility; outages go to 1-800-434-1235. If a fridge, oven control or washer stays dark once power returns and the breaker is fine, the board and its power supply need testing.

A straight answer on old units

If a worn-out appliance is not worth saving, you hear so before a part is ordered. King Township picks up old appliances at the curb with a pink white-goods tag and a booked GFL collection, doors off fridges and ovens.

Reviews

King City appliance repair reviews

The washer took ages to fill and then stopped with a fill code. He pulled the hoses, found both inlet screens packed with white scale and replaced the inlet valve. He also explained why our water does that, and the washer has filled normally since.
KKaren D.Schomberg · Front-load washer
Our dryer spun but stayed cold. The technician tested the thermal fuse, found it open, and showed me the crushed foil duct behind the machine that had cooked it. He fitted a new fuse and told us to replace that duct. Towels dry in one cycle again.
GGraham T.Laskay · Electric dryer
Our wall oven took forever to preheat and cakes came out pale. He checked the bake element first, which was fine, then found the temperature sensor reading wrong on his meter. He replaced it, ran the oven with a thermometer inside, and gave the price before starting.

Questions

Appliance repair FAQ for King City homes

Six answers on rural visits, well water, propane, power cuts, a leaking fridge and a freezer that will not freeze.

Do you repair appliances on farms and rural lots outside King City village?

Yes, King Valley's King City location repairs fridges, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, dryers and washers on farms and rural lots north and west of the village, not only on its streets. The places it covers sit about 6 to 25 minutes' drive from the village in light traffic. When you book, mention a locked gate, a long lane or which barn, shop or basement holds the second fridge, so the technician walks straight to it.

Which appliance parts wear out faster in a King Township home on a private well?

On a King Township private well, the parts that wear out first are inlet valve screens, fridge water filters, ice maker fill valves and dishwasher heating elements. Sediment packs washer and dishwasher screens until the fill slows and the control stops with a fill error, while hardness lays scale on heaters and spray-arm holes. York Region tests private wells for bacteria only, so a lab test for hardness and iron, a whole-house sediment filter and fridge filters changed on schedule all help.

Is a propane range or dryer repaired differently from a natural gas one?

Mostly no, a propane range or dryer uses the same kinds of igniters, gas valves and burners as a natural gas model; the real difference is the fuel conversion. Propane needs the maker's LP conversion, with burner orifices and a regulator setting made for propane. A missed or partial conversion shows as tall, lazy yellow flames and soot, and Enbridge says cooking flames should burn blue. If you smell propane, leave the house, then call 911 and your propane supplier from outside.

Why won't my appliance start again after the power comes back on?

An appliance that stays dead once power returns usually has a tripped breaker or GFCI outlet, a control needing a power reset, or a surge-damaged control board. Check the breaker first, then cut power at the panel for as long as the manual suggests. If the display stays blank, the technician tests the board's supply voltage and fuse with a meter. Health Canada says an unopened fridge keeps food cold about 4 hours, a full freezer about 48.

What causes a puddle of water under the front of my fridge?

A puddle under a fridge's front usually means a clogged defrost drain, a cracked or overflowing drain pan, or a leaking water filter head or supply line. Ice under a side-by-side's bottom freezer basket points to the drain; GE's flush is 1 tablespoon of baking soda in 2 cups hot water through a turkey baster. A wrong or overdue filter drips at its head, and a cracked inlet valve often leaks at the back. Wipe the floor and keep water away from the outlet.

Why does my freezer keep running but never get cold enough to freeze?

A freezer that runs but never freezes usually has an evaporator iced over by a defrost failure, a stalled fan, dusty condenser coils or a worn door gasket. Health Canada's target is -18 °C (0 °F) or colder. Vacuum the coils once or twice a year, every 3 to 6 months with pets. If the fans turn and the coils are clean but nothing cools, the sealed system is the likely fault, and we tell you plainly since refrigerant work is outside our service.
