Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information King Valley Appliance Repair collects when you book or ask about an in-home repair, why we need it, who else handles it, and how you can see or correct what we hold.

Who looks after your information

King Valley Appliance Repair repairs household appliances in customers' homes from two Ontario locations, one in King City (King Township) and one in Kleinburg (City of Vaughan). We handle personal information under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, known as PIPEDA.

Our privacy officer is accountable for how we collect, use and protect it. You can reach the privacy officer by calling (555) 555-5555 or by writing through the form on our Contact Us page.

What we collect

We ask only for what a repair visit needs. Depending on how you contact us, that can include:

  • Your name, phone number and email address, when you send the booking form
  • The address of the home where the appliance is
  • Appliance details: type, brand, the model and serial numbers from the rating label, and the fault or error code you describe
  • Photos of the fault, if the technician takes any, such as a scorched wire connector behind a dryer panel
  • Details of your calls, such as the number you called from, the time of the call and notes on what the appliance was doing

We also keep a record of the work done and the invoice, since the warranty and our tax records depend on them.

How we use it

  • To book your visit and contact you about its timing
  • To diagnose the fault and find the right part for your model
  • To prepare your invoice
  • To check and honour a warranty claim if the repaired fault comes back
  • To follow up about your request, for example when an ordered part has arrived and the second visit needs a time

If we ever want to use your information for a purpose not listed here, we will ask you first.

Your consent and our messages

Ticking the box on our booking form lets us phone or email you about the repair you asked for. Calling us to book gives the same permission for that repair.

We do not send marketing emails, newsletters or offers. An email from us is always about your request, your visit or your repair.

You can withdraw consent at any time by telling us. We may then be unable to finish a booking or check a warranty claim, and we still keep the records the law requires, such as invoices.

Who else receives it

We do not sell your personal information. It goes only to:

  • Companies that help us run our website, the booking form, our phone line and our invoicing
  • Parts suppliers, when ordering a part requires your appliance's model number

Some of these providers may store or process information on servers outside Canada. While it is held there, it is subject to that country's laws, and authorities there may be able to obtain it.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website may use basic analytics and cookies to see how its pages are used, for example which pages people open and how they move between them. The results tell us which pages help visitors and which need rewriting.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.

Retention and safeguards

Personal information stays with us only as long as we need it for your repair, the 90-day warranty that follows and our tax records. When it is no longer needed for those reasons, we delete it.

We protect it with physical, technical and administrative safeguards suited to how sensitive it is. Within our business, it is used only by the people who book, carry out or invoice your repair.

If a breach of our safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as federal privacy law requires. We also disclose information when a law or a court order compels us to.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, how it has been used and who it has been shared with. If any of it is wrong or out of date, such as an old phone number or a misread serial number, ask us to correct it.

Send your request to our privacy officer by phone or through the contact form. To protect you, we may ask you to confirm who you are before we share anything. We answer access requests within 30 days, the time federal privacy law allows.

Questions, complaints and updates

If you are concerned about how we handled your information, raise it with our privacy officer first, and we will look into it.

If our answer does not settle the matter, you can file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada through priv.gc.ca.
